In this series, Ksenia Dolinskaya addresses the USSR as a Wonderland—a state that promised to build an ideal world and arrogated to itself the right to decide human destinies. Alice’s story becomes the language of conversation about life within a system whose rules must be accepted, even when they contradict experience and common sense.

The chessboard is the field of human destinies, where the right to move belongs to power. Teachers and mentors embody its everyday presence: they teach correct answers, set acceptable boundaries, and instill obedience. Television produces an official version of reality, transforming lies into a familiar picture of the world.

The Soviet Wonderland has collapsed, but the question of humanity in the face of power remains. Through a familiar fairy tale, the artist explores how obedience works and what happens to an individual when their life becomes part of someone else’s party.
